There can be stated a polarity between the technological performance of larch wood described in scientific literature and the real appreciation of this wood species by the processing industry. This study tries to asses the bending strength and the modulus of elasticity of larch wood from rhineland-Palatinate as well as the visual parameters according to the currently applied German and European standard. Results have been a validation of a high static performance and the statement of the disability to describe technological properties just by visual parameters. The distortion of boards and battens occurred to be a serious problem. Further research has to be done on the influence of compression wood and other anatomical parameters on that phenomenon and how it can be avoided or reduced by cutting patterns and kilndrying schemes. Future marketing activities have to regard the requirements of processing industry and end-user to provide the corresponding and suiting roundwood in terms of quality and dimension.
