Towards a candidate gene aproach to studying the genetics of species isolation in European Populus : Poster presented at the Sixth Biennal Conference of the Systematics Association, 28-31August 2007 at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK
- Our pilot study revealed 53 polymorphisms (49 SNPs, two microsatallites, and two non-repetitive indels) across the 12 informative loci (2) studied so far (Table 1). - High levels of genetic divergence were found between P. alba and P. tremula (at least one polymorphism per gens with Fst>0.25). - Intraspecific polymorphisms were detected for each gene, indicating usefulness for within-species population genetic studies. - A genotypic cline approach allowed the detection of deaprtures from neutral introgression, as exemplified by a negative departure (steeper than expected slope) for, SNP position 152 of the ASL1 locus.
