Abstract
GALAHAD (Advanced Remote Monitoring Technqiues for Glaciers, Avalanches and Landslide Hazard Mitigation, http://www.galahad.eu) addresses to landslides, avalanches and glaciers related hazard mitigation through the development of advanced remote monitoring techniques, namely ground based synthetic aperture radar (GB SAR) interferometry and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) enabling the improvement of reliability, precision and operative usefulness of the measurements. Snow depth and snow water equivalent (SWE) or the snow mass on ground are key parameters in the assessment of avalanche hazard, for snow, snow drift and avalanche modelling as well as model verification. While the TLS provide maps of the spatial snow depth distribution, the GB SAR can in principle be used to retrieve snow depth and SWE.
