Um der Waldbewirtschaftung und -planung sowie der Forschung und dem Naturschutz eine neue Grundlage zur Verfügung zu stellen, wurde im Projekt MoGLI (Modellierung Gehölzarten LFI) die potenzielle Verbreitung der häufigsten Gehölzarten für den Schweizer Wald modelliert. Zur räumlichen Modellierung standen Daten des Schweizerischen Landesforstinventars (LFI) zur Verfügung. Für die Verbreitungskarten wurde das bekannte Vorkommen von Arten aus dem LFI mit flächendeckenden Umweltvariablen als Prädiktoren in eine statistische Beziehung gesetzt. Für eine bessere Genauigkeit der Vorhersagen verwendeten wir neben häufig benutzten Prädiktoren wie Klima und Topografie auch eine Boden-pH-Karte und entwickelten neue Prädiktoren, welche die Waldstruktur mithilfe von luftgestütztem LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging; Laserscanning) beschreiben. Auf diese Weise konnte das potenzielle Verbreitungsgebiet von 56 Gehölzarten mit hoher Genauigkeit modelliert werden. Die Verbreitungskarten für diese Arten stehen in einer Auflösung von 25 m × 25 m mit dazugehörigen Metadaten und Qualitätskriterien zur Verfügung und können in einer WebGIS-Applikation interaktiv betrachtet werden.
En modélisant la distribution potentielle des espèces ligneuses les plus courantes pour la forêt suisse, nous avons voulu fournir une base importante pour la gestion et la planification des forêts, ainsi que pour la recherche et la conservation de la nature. Les données de l’Inventaire forestier national suisse (LFI) étaient disponibles pour la modélisation spatiale des espèces ligneuses. Les cartes de distribution potentielles ont été générées en établissant une relation statistique entre l’occurrence connue des espèces à partir du LFI et les variables environnementales aréolaires comme prédicteurs. Pour maximiser la précision des prédictions spatiales, nous avons utilisé une carte du pH des sols en plus des prédicteurs couramment utilisés, tels que le climat et la topographie, et nous avons développé de nouveaux prédicteurs décrivant la structure des forêts à l’aide du LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging; balayage laser) aéroporté. Dans l’ensemble, nous avons pu modéliser l’aire de distribution potentielle de 56 espèces ligneuses avec une bonne précision. Les cartes de distribution de ces espèces sont disponibles à une résolution de 25 m × 25 m avec les métadonnées et les critères de qualité associés et peuvent être visualisées de manière interactive dans une application WebGIS.
By means of modeling the potential distribution of the most common woody species for the Swiss forests, we wanted to provide an important basis for forest management and planning as well as for research and nature conservation. Data from the Swiss National Forest Inventory (LFI) were available for the spatial modeling of woody species. Potential distribution maps were created by statistically relating the known occurrence of species from the LFI with areal environmental variables as predictors. We used a soil pH map in addition to commonly used predictors such as climate and topography, and developed new predictors describing forest structure using airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging; laser scanning) in order to maximize the accuracy of spatial predictions. Overall, we were able to model the potential distribution range of 56 woody species with good accuracy. The distribution maps of these species are available at a resolution of 25 m × 25 m with associated metadata and quality indicators and can be viewed interactively in a WebGIS application.
