- AbstractThe paper investigates the status of mountain forests in international agreements and processes, which are considered important tools to guide the development and implementation of policy on all levels and to foster international co-operation and collaboration in specific policy fields. The international agenda is very fragmented and only sparcly respects mountain forests as a distinct item on its own. Only two regional agreements address mountain forests directly. A number of cummitments and initiatives, taken by the international community, address, issues like mountain regions, forests, biodiversity, climate change, rural development and sustainable development. They are of significant relevance to mountain forest oriented policies and activities. For political support and access to required resources, it is suggested to build and strengthen links of mountain forests with these relevant agreements and processes.
