Abstract
Referring to the proof made by Wiebecke that the wellknown quotation "iron law of local site-rules" was originally not made by Pfeil but by Wiedemann, this paper states what was really said by Pfeil in this context. Additionally it is made clear, that posterity is having its problems concerning the interpretation and the author of another famous quotation regarded as one of Pfeil's: "Ask the trees...". Finally the 140. anniversary of Wilhelm Pfeil's death is commemorated.
