Abstract
The results of the 1994 crown condition survey show in comparison to previous years a slight improvement of defoliation-degree over all species. Separated by species Pinus sylvestris, Abies alba and Quercus spp. deteriorated, whereas Picea abies, Larix decidua and Fagus sylvatica improved. Mechanical damages to stem and/or to crown were found on 45% of all sample trees. Remarkably, trees with branches damaged by wind (21% of the sample trees) have a considerably higher defoliation than not afflicted trees. The presence of this type of damage could partly have influenced the assessment of crown condition.
