The total forest area in specially protected areas covers about 700,000 ha. There is 622,000 ha, i.e. 23,6 % of the total forest area in the Czech Republic situated in large-sized protected areas (national parks, protected landscape areas). Obviously, forest management is applied to those protected forests, too. To leave forest stands to "natural" development, it might lead to a disappearance of elements of nature for which the given area was declared as a protected one. The article focused on floodplain forests in southern Moravia is resuming history and measures done for the benefit of remnants of those unique forest persisting in the neighborhood of the Palava Protected Landscape Area.
