Abstract
The evaluate the qualities of multi-layered soils as forest sites in groundwater distant sand areas especially adapted methods are required. The thickness of coverings of boulder sand and blow sand were proved as significant key criterions. Blown sands require additional criterions, e.g. duration of pedogenesis and quantity of humus. Site mapping for these areas is complicated. Meaningful results require regular drillings in combination with recording consideration of geomorphological features and vegetation types (species combination, life forms, growth capacity and cover).
