- AbstractEpicuticular wax of Scots pine needles supplied with different fertilizers were studied with scanning electron microscope. Lophodermella sulcigena had infected pines. Degradation of the wax was observed especially in the epistomatal chambers of the needles of diseased trees. Amorphous wax may enable penetration of Lophodermella sulcingena by keeping stomatas open. Independent of the infection, quantity of epicuticular wax was more altered than the quality. Thus the nutrient status of the trees may have affected the activity of wax synthesis.
