- AbstractIt is demonstrated that pollen, small seeds and immature embryos can be deep- frozent at -196C without loss of viability. The survival rate of the tested pollen and seeds (with the exception of oak) was 100%of controls. In the case of embryos with high humidity the survival rate was higher tha 90% when using a special cryoprotectant and a special freezing technique. These results are especially important for species with large seeds with high moisture content, such as oak, beech and horse-chestnut, where long-term storage is not possible without rapid loss of germination capacity.
