- AbstractIn German-language literature, Adalbert Stifter is known as the "Dichter des Waldes" (the Master Poet on Woodlands). In passing, some of his works also dealt with hunting. Though he himself did not hunt, he was not a hunting antagonist. He preferred that hunting be carried out in accordance with good huntmanship. He viewed the hunting and killing of animals as more of a natural (ecological) necessity than a pleasurable pastime.
