Ökologische Bewertung von Waldrändern: ein Methodenvergleich

Waldränder sind durch den Menschen entstandene, artenreiche Übergangs- und Vernetzungselemente, die in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten durch die Intensivierung der Landnutzung an vielen Orten immer schmaler und einförmiger geworden sind. Seit einiger Zeit fördert der Bund die ökologische Aufwertung von Waldrändern. Diesbezüglich ist es von Interesse, wie erfolgreich diese Aufwertungsmassnahmen sind. Die vorliegende Arbeit vergleicht die beiden Bewertungsmethoden Pro Natura und Krüsi anhand von elf aufgewerteten und drei nicht aufgewerteten Waldrändern. Beide Methoden erfassen die ökologische Qualität der Waldränder anhand von strukturellen Merkmalen und aufgrund der botanischen Vielfalt, wobei sich die einzelnen Kriterien zum Teil unterscheiden. Während die Beurteilung bei der Methode Pro Natura primär auf Schätzungen beruht, verlangt die aufwendigere Methode Krüsi meist Messungen. Die Resultate der beiden Methoden waren sehr ähnlich und wiesen eine hoch signifikante positive lineare Korrelation auf. Beide Methoden zeigten klar, welche Waldränder eine gute und welche eine schlechte ökologische Qualität aufweisen. Die Methode Pro Natura eignet sich zur einfachen und raschen Beurteilung des ökologischen Potenzials eines Waldrandes. Die Methode Krüsi eignet sich dank reproduzierbaren Ergebnissen auch für wissenschaftliche Erfolgskontrollen.
Les lisières sont des éléments de transition et de réseau, riches en espèces, créés par l'activité humaine. Ces dernières décennies, elles sont devenues en maints endroits plus étroites et plus uniformes en raison de l'intensification de l'agriculture et de l'exploitation forestière. Depuis quelque temps, la Confédération soutient la revalorisation écologique des lisières. Pour cette raison, il est intéressant de savoir quels succès ont eu ces mesures de revalorisation. Le présent article compare les deux méthodes d'évaluation Krüsi et Pro Natura à l'exemple de onze lisières revalorisées et trois lisières non revalorisées. Les deux méthodes analysent la qualité écologique des lisières à l'aide de caractéristiques structurelles et de la diversité botanique, mais diffèrent partiellement sur les critères spécifiques. Alors que la méthode Pro Natura repose principalement sur des estimations, la méthode Krüsi, plus exigeante, nécessite des mesures. Les résultats des deux méthodes sont très semblables et démontrent une corrélation linéaire positive fortement significative. Les deux méthodes établissent quelles lisières ont une bonne qualité écologique et lesquelles une mauvaise. La méthode Pro Natura convient pour une évaluation simple et rapide du potentiel écologique d'une lisière. La méthode Krüsi se prête également à des contrôles d'efficacité scientifique en raison de la reproductibilité des résultats.
In Switzerland, forest edges are mostly man-made. Potentially, forest edge ecotones are very rich in species. In agricultural landscapes, they are also the main element of ecological connectivity. Unfortunately, today's forest edges are mostly far too narrow and monotonous to optimally fulfil their role. Some years ago, therefore, the federal government started a programme to improve the ecological quality of forest edges. Of course, the impact of the programme should be monitored and several assessment methods were developed. In the present paper, we compared the assessment methods of Pro Natura and Krüsi by applying them to eleven upgraded and three untreated forest edges. Even though both methods take into account the structure and the floristic richness of forest edges, they differ in many details. One major difference is that the Pro Natura method is based on estimates while the Krüsi method whenever possible relies on measurements. With both methods, it was possible to distinguish valuable from less valuable forest edges and, fortunately, the results of both methods even highly correlated. In conclusion, for a quick assessment by lay men, the rapid and simple Pro Natura method is recommended, whereas for scientific monitoring, the more reproducible and more sophisticated but also more time-consuming Krüsi method is more suitable.
