A model forest area of 25 600 hectares was generated using a Landsat MSS satellite image and stand and tree models. Simulated field inventories with different designs are carried out in the generated forest. The model forest makes it possible to vary sampling intensity, shape and size of the plot and cluster, number of sample trees, measurement made, measurement errors, and errors associated with models employed. Also, sampling in two occasions with permanent or temporary plots can be simulated. By repeating a certain inventory design several times, the standard deviations of the results are obtained empirically. Some results to describe the use of the model forest are presented.
