In experiments with root cuttings of Prunus avium best results were obtained when cuttings were inserted with the proximal 2-3 cm exposed to the air. All lengths and diameters of root cuttings were successful (i.e. produced at least one sucker), and all successful cuttings produced roots at their distal ends.
