- AbstractThe title of this article "Zu aller Menschen Freude wunderschoen" is mentioned by Georg Ludwig Hartig in his letter from 1818 about his latest land purchase, the manor estate Roerchen in Pommern. When G. L. Hartig was promoted Preussischer Oberlandforstmeister in 1811 he was given the right to "lease a domain estate at a favorable rate". Later on, Hartig bought the domain Roerchen as well as additional forest land. Based on letters from that period the author describes the management of the estate. Great variety was a major principle in G. L. Hartig's management: cultivation of grain, sheep breeding, fruit plantations, brickworks etc. A distillery, set up in the chapel of the Templerorden (the owner of Roerchen since about 1300 A. C.) , made also profits by the refining agricultural products such as potatoes. After G. L. Hartig's death on February 2nd, 1837, his son Franz sold Roerchen because of enormous debts. In the following time the ownership of Roerchen changed quite frequently until 1945. The author visited Roerchen in 1993 and he decribes the recent conditions of the domain.
