Abstract
The combination of lysimeters, fritted glass cups, NOx and meteorological measurements enabled the assessment of N pools and fluxes of an Austrian forest ecosystem on calcareous bedrock. The combination of six process-oriented models improved the knowledge about the most likely effects of increased temperature and different nitrogen inputs on nitrogen dynamics over the next fifty years. Enhanced nitrate leaching into the groundwater under changing environmental conditions has been verified by measuring soil water as well as by the modelling of the complete nitrogen cycle.
